OUR SERVICES
What to Expect
At VetMind we understand that every pet is as unique as their behavior needs. Therefore, we create individual treatment plans that are tailored to each pet and their family. Your pet’s journey to improvement starts with an an Initial Behavioral Assessment. Typically we recheck every 2-6 weeks during a Behavior Progress Assessment. As we find the right protocol and your pet starts to improve, we often increase the time between appointments. On average, it takes about 6-12 months to find the right protocol, but this can vary based on behavior concerns and client commitment. Once a pet is doing well, we can discuss continuing on or transitioning care back to your general practice veterinarian if that is an option.

Initial Behavioral ConsultatioN
Getting Started
- Initial behavioral consultations are extended in-depth appointments reviewing medical and behavioral history
- Please have all of your pet’s medical records emailed to us.
- We will send you a comprehensive behavior history questionnaire to complete prior to your scheduled appointment time.(PLEASE NOTE – this can not be saved and should be completed when you will have time to complete the forms)
- Initial behavioral consultations include:
- A skilled observational evaluation of your pet. A hands-on physical evaluation may be performed based on your pets fear, anxiety, and stress, and general comfort level with handling.
- A discussion of your pet’s primary behavior concerns, possible diagnoses or differential diagnoses, and prognosis.
- Based on the above information we will collaboratively determine an initial treatment plan including medications, management strategies, and behavior modification (training) techniques tailored to your pet and your family. A written report will be emailed as well.
Progress Assessment
In Person and Telemedicine
- Typically we recheck about 2-6 weeks after initial behavioral consultation and then based on individual plans and progress.
- Frequency and type of progress assessments will vary depending on your pet’s individual needs.
- Most progress assessments can be completed by telemedicine but we will need to see your pet in person at least 1-2x/year.
VetConnect Consultation
Special Circumstances Only
- Due to the nature of veterinary behavioral medicine, in-person consultations have significant benefits, but there are situations were this may not be feasible.
- In select cases, we may be able to work with your primary care veterinarian to help support you and your pet.
- A VetConnect Consultation is entirely through your primary care veterinarian as they will maintain the valid veterinarian-client-patient-relationship. All communication will remain between Dr. Modes and your primary care veterinarian.
- Your vet will collect your pet’s medical and behavioral history and submit to VetMind.
- Dr. Modes will collaborate directly with your veterinarian to offer case management recommendations. If medications are needed, your primary care veterinarian will handle prescribing them and provide you with guidance.
- Ongoing follow-up will also be coordinated through your primary care veterinarian.
